Between 1989 and 1993,
over one hundred early European films were
deposited at the Film Archive by collector Alan
Roberts.
The films were some of the earliest and most rare
ever located in New Zealand. After their deposit at
the Archive, the films were preserved by the
Cinematheque Royale in Brussels before being
returned to New Zealand.
A large number of the films in Alan Roberts
Collection - as it came to be known - were produced
by Pathé, an early film company. Established
by Frenchman Charles Pathé in 1902, the
company was an international empire by 1908,
selling more films in the United States than
American film companies. Many Pathé films were
screened in New Zealand.
The selection of titles below is drawn from the
Pathé films of the Alan Roberts Collection.
All were made in 1905 and are wonderful examples of
early film style.
How we found these results
These results were found by using the Catalogue’s Advanced
Search function. To get started we chose Film Material from the ‘Media’ menu. Then we typed Pathe into the ‘By’ field. Finally we typed 1905 into the ‘Year’ field and selected Equals from the ‘Year’ menu. |
